Regular check ups are the basis of successful preventive care. Before your initial dental check you will be asked to complete a pre treatment questionnaire. This will allow you to communicate to the dentist your specific dental needs and objectives. Your consultation with the dental surgeon will probably begin with a discussion regarding your current dental health and any problems or concerns. A full dental chart will then be recorded. This will include a record of the condition of your teeth and gums and the health of the soft tissues in your mouth. The function of your jaw joint will be checked along with the muscles and lymph glands.
If the dental surgeon feels that dental x-rays are required, these will be done using the practice's state of the art digital radiography system. This allows both you and the dental surgeon to view the x-ray images instantaneously so there is no waiting around for x-rays to be processed.
After this examination, the dental surgeon will discuss with you any treatment that is recommended to secure and maintain your oral health, and other treatment options which may be available to improve the function of your teeth or the appearance of your smile. You will be provided with a written treatment plan with all of the treatment choices listed for your consideration. A written estimate of treatment costs will be provided for any treatments needed.
Every patient is an individual and your dentist will be able to offer advice on how frequently you should attend for check ups.
Our practice employs state of the art technology along with one to one professional care to ensure that you receive the treatment that is right for you, to help you fully understand the dental treatment which you decide to embark upon.
The intra-oral camera is shaped like a wand. It is about the size of a bread stick. The dentists can take photographs very quickly of either multiple teeth, single teeth or even portions of teeth with magnification of up to 50 times.
The old cliché "a picture is worth a thousand words". It gives the patient important information including:-
All this builds patient confidence so that you can make the right decision about the treatment you feel you need.
Of course we will guide you and advise you but in the final analysis it's your body and it simply helps to see. The intra-oral camera is useful for before and after pictures. Put simply at 50 times magnification you can see how good you think our work really is.
Dentists routinely wear masks and glasses to prevent cross infection between patient and dentist. In our practice you'll often see the dentists wearing magnifying binoculars. This isn't because we have impaired sight! Magnifying loupes help the dentist carry out intricate and detailed work with accuracy that is not possible without magnification. Where magnifying loupes do need to be used they result in higher quality work. This is just another sign of quality assurance but may not be immediately obvious.
