This is sometimes called transmucosal sedation. The effects are similar to oral sedation. It is very effective for patients with needle phobia and for children.
About nasal sedation
•The drug is delivered by a special atomiser into your nostril.
•It can taste a little bitter.
•It acts quickly within about 10 minutes.
•It is a very gentle and comfortable form of sedatio
What to expect
•You will feel sleepy and relaxed.
•Your memory will not be affected before the drug was given but you may forget parts of the procedure.
•You are likely to have a sense of well-being.
•You will need to stay in the practice until the dental surgeon is satisfied you are safe to be accompanied home by a responsible adult.
What not to expect
•Nasal sedation does not produce general anaesthesia.
•You will not have oblivion. In other words it is not totally without sensation like an anaesthetic for open heart surgery!
